Contains legal documents pertaining to the prosecution of James M.L. Scovill and William H. Scovill for counterfeiting copper coins in September, 1838.

Biographical / Historical:

James M.L. Scovill and William H. Scovill formed the J.M.L. & W.H. Scovill manufacturing company in 1827. The company, which existed under different names, including Scovill Manufacturing Company, in Waterbury, Connecticut, from the beginning of the 1800s into the 2000s, has made metal items such as buttons, daguerreotype plates, tokens, medals, and planchets for coins.
