The collection contains 92 pieces of sheet music, 77 of which were published in the United States, 13 in England, and 1 each in Ireland and France. The musical content is split almost evenly between piano music and vocal music with piano accompaniment. The piano music includes works in dance forms, including galops, waltzes, polkas, marches, Schottisches, quadrilles, and mazurkas. The topical subjects of the music and illustrations (43 of which are in color) includes American Civil War battles and persons, the transatlantic cable, and celebrities of the stage.
