Background
- Scope and Content:
This collection contains athletics memorabilia, in particular University at Buffalo wrestling team material, collected by former head coach Edward "Ed" W. Michael.
- Biographical / Historical:
During the 1970s, the UB football team was disbanded by the student body. This provided the opportunity for other sports and organizations, such as wrestling, to gain greater attention at both an institutional and state level. From the 1970s-2000s, the UB wrestling team consistently produced New York State champions.
Edward W. Michael worked as a coach, teacher, and administrator with University at Buffalo Athletics for 35 years, from 1970-2005. During this time his primary focus was on the UB wrestling team.

- The Edward W. Michael Athletics Memorabilia collection was donated to the University Archives by Edward W. Michael in April 2015. Additional material gifted in June 2019.
