Background
- Scope and Content:
This collection consists of annual files from the College of Arts and Sciences, Office of the Dean. Records included in this collection fall into three major categories: annual reports from the various departments within the College of Arts and Sciences, departmental files regarding these same departments, and general files of the Office of the Dean.
- Biographical / Historical:
The first courses in Arts and Sciences were offered by the University of Buffalo in 1913 and by 1915 the College of Arts and Sciences was given departmental status. Between 1967 and 1998, the University at Buffalo reorganized its schools and colleges into faculties. Among these were the Faculty of Arts and Letters, the Faculty of Medicine and the Faculty of Social Sciences and Administration. In 1998 the university again reorganized, reestablishing many of the former schools. It was then that the departments which belonged to the Faculty of Arts and Letters, the Faculty of Social Sciences and Administration, and the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics were combined to form the College of Arts and Sciences.
