This collection, which was assembled by an unknown compiler, contains a scrapbook that includes printed materials and clippings pertaining to the life and work of Andrew Lang.

Biographical / Historical:

Andrew Lang was born on March 31, 1844 in Selkirk, Scottish Borders. Lang was educated at Selkirk Grammar School, Loretto School, Edinburg Academy, the University of St. Andrews and Balliol College at Oxford. Lang was member of the Order of the White Rose, as well as an honorary fellow of Merton College.

Lang was influenced by John Ferguson McLennan and E.B. Tylor. Lang's publications include Myth, Ritual and Religion (1887) and Blue Fairy Book (1889). Lang helped found "psychical research," and was a believer in spiritualism. Lang wrote about Scottish history and published in many magazines. Lang also helped translate The Odyssey of Homer into English Prose in 1879 with Samuel Henry Butcher.

Lang was married to Leonora Blanche Alleyne who was also an author. Lang died on July 20, 1912 at the Tor-na-Coille Hotel in Banchory, Banchory. Lang was buried at St. Andrews.
