Collection Details

Born on May 4, 1894 in Morshanskii District of Tambov Province in the Russian Empire, Fedor Fedorovich Maybohm (Meibom) graduated from the Vladimir Military School in Saint Petersburg, serving in the Imperial Army during World War I. During the Civil War, Maybohm participated in the Great Siberian Ice March of 1920. By 1925, Maybohm had immigrated to the United States where he served in the 146th Field Artillery of the Washington National Guard. In 1926, Maybohm led a vaudeville troupe on a tour of the West Coast. In 1945, Maybohm married Joyce Sheere, and by 1947 he had opened a restaurant in Detroit called Fedor's House of Cuisine. By 1967, Maybohm had relocated to California, opening another restaurant there in the town of Campbell. Maybohm died in Las Vegas, Nevada in 1978.

This collection contains the accumulated papers of Fedor Fedorovich Maybohm (Meibom). Maybohm served in the White Army and participated in the Great Siberian Ice March of 1920. After the Russian Civil War he emigrated to China and then Detroit, Michigan. Following his emigration he joined the Washington National Guard, worked as a vaudeville producer, a chef, and a restaurateur. The documents in this collection pertain to his military career, his civilian life, and his family. This collection contains many scrapbooks, containing photographs and clippings related to Maybohm’s career as a vaudeville producer and restaurateur.
