Correspondence received by George H. Clapp from S.H. Chapman and Howard R. Newcomb, along with copies of outgoing letters, regarding die break varieties and other matters pertaining to Chapman’s research for his book, The United States Cents of 1794. Includes a lengthy discussion of the errors in the first printing of the book (1923) by Clapp, a detailed critique of the book by Newcomb (1924), Chapman’s own thoughts on the quality of the first edition and the need for a second edition (1926), and a “pedigree of 1793 cents in the collection of George H. Clapp which were illustrated and described or only described by Sylvester S. Crosby” (1943).
